Fitchburg and Leominster, the Twin Cities of the region, observe the holiday with the kind of civic seriousness that communities with strong veterans’ traditions maintain: parades, color guards, wreath-laying at memorial sites, and the feeling of a small city that still knows its neighbors. Bliss Cannabis in Lunenburg is a short drive from both cities and ready for the weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend in Fitchburg and Leominster: What To Expect

Memorial Day weekend in Johnny Appleseed Country is packed with meaningful ways to honor those who have served, with ceremonies and parades spanning both Fitchburg and Leominster. w

In Fitchburg, the weekend kicks off Sunday at 10:30 AM with the annual Memorial Day Mass at St. Anthony Church, followed by a dedication and wreath-laying at the church’s WWII memorial. That same evening at 6 PM, Monument Park hosts the Annual White Cross Ceremony. Monday morning, the Memorial Day parade steps off at 10 AM from M.E. Credit Union on North Street, behind the Fire Station, moving up Main Street to Monument Park Gazebo.

Over in Leominster, the day starts early. Residents and veterans assemble at the Leominster Veterans Center at 7:15 AM for transportation to a series of cemetery and monument tributes at The Common, St. Leo’s Cemetery, St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, the Franco-American Veterans Club, and Evergreen Cemetery, wrapping up there around 10:30 AM. From Evergreen Cemetery, all veterans are invited to march roughly one mile to Carter Park on Main Street beginning at 11 AM, where the final Memorial Day Ceremony gets underway at 11:30 AM.

Free to the public, the Fitchburg Art Museum is a regional cultural institution with rotating exhibits and programming worth building into a holiday weekend visit.

Coggshall Park offers trails and access to a pond within the city. A great outdoor option for the morning or early afternoon before parade programming begins.

For dining, Slattery’s Restaurant on Lunenburg Street is a local casual option with a consistent neighborhood following.

Carter Park in Leominster is the city’s central park for community gatherings. Open space, picnic facilities, and a large enough footprint for the kind of group outdoor time that characterizes Memorial Day afternoon!

Doyle Community Park in Leominster offers trails through a wooded conservation area. It’s quieter than the state forests but well-maintained and worth exploring over the holiday weekend.

Wachusett Mountain State Reservation in Princeton offers a ski area that transitions into hiking territory in the warmer months, with summit trails and ridge-line views across Central Massachusetts.

The Nashua River Rail Trail connects Ayer to Nashua across 12 miles of paved multi-use trail. A popular cycling route for the region that is at its best in late May.

Cannabis Pairings for a North Central Massachusetts Weekend

A full weekend calls for a thoughtful approach to cannabis. Here’s how different product formats pair naturally with each part of your day.

Pre-rolls are the most practical choice for social occasions and group settings. No preparation required, easy to pass in a private setting, and available in strain profiles that suit both daytime energy and evening unwinding. They’re a clean, no-fuss format that keeps the focus on the people around you.

For a longer-duration experience, edibles reward patience. Starting at a measured dose of 2.5 to 5mg THC and allowing one to two hours before reassessing is the most reliable approach. Especially on a holiday weekend when the day’s schedule is full, and things can shift unexpectedly. Gummies and chocolates in clearly labeled packages take the guesswork out of dosing and make it easy to stay in control of your experience from morning through night.

Bliss Cannabis is at 43 Summer Street, Lunenburg, MA 01462, right near Fitchburg and Leominster, and a natural stop before or after your weekend plans.
